The two-seater that would have faded into forgotten history if not for the Back to the Future movies, the DeLorean DMC-12 is one-of-a-kind with its angular steel body (the opposite of aerodynamic), gull-wing doors and all-round truly horrible driving.

In 1995, a car mechanic from Liverpool, UK acquired the company’s name and logo trademarks and started the DeLorean Motor Company (DMC), now based in Texas, to serve the over 6,000 DMC-12 cars still on the road.
Now, 41 years after the first DeLorean car was launched, DMC will debut an electric concept vehicle at the prestigious Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in August 2022. The company teased the public with a pixelated image last Friday, followed by a three-quarter shot a few days later.
DMC has said that they are working with Italdesign, a prestigious design shop by Volkswagen, to reimagine the classic vehicle for the electric era.
The is no more detail except that it will remain a concept EV, at least for now. As far as anyone knows, the company doesn’t have the funds to produce the EV on any significant scale although it did get the green light the from National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to reproduce vintage replica cars on a small scale. So, you’d sooner be able to buy a replica DMC-12 before you can buy an electric one.
However, if people like what they see at Pebble Beach, if they actually make a decent car, and the rumoured Back to a Future remake happens, the DeLorean might have a chance to prove itself again.
