My First Experience Using the Trek App to Book a RAPID On-Demand Van in KL
Experience Using the Trek App to Book a RAPID On-Demand – from Automologist Su’s point of view.

If you live in Kuala Lumpur and rely on public transport like me, you’ve probably taken the LRT, MRT, Grab or Bolt more times than you can count. But recently, I discovered a new way to get around the city – the Trek app, which lets you book a Rapid On-Demand Van directly from your phone.
Curious and slightly nervous, I decided to give it a try for the very first time. Here’s a full breakdown of my experience using the Trek app in Malaysia and whether it’s something I’d recommend for others.
What is the Trek App?
The Trek app is a mobile application that allows users to book Rapid On-Demand Vans operated by Prasarana Malaysia. Unlike fixed-route buses, these vans operate more like a ride-sharing service – you request a ride and the van comes to you (or near you), based on the closest stop in the service area.
It’s designated to make public transport in KL more accessible, affordable and flexible, especially in areas not well-covered by trains or traditional buses.
How I booked a Rapid Van with the Trek App :

Downloading & Registering : I downloaded the Trek Malaysia app from the Google Play Store. Registration was quick – just a phone number and email.

Choosing Pickup and Drop-off points : The app showed a map of nearby Rapid stops. I selected my location and destination easily. The app then assigned me to the nearest van and gave me an estimated pickup time.

Ride Confirmation : Once confirmed, I waited at the designated point. The app showed real-time updates, similar to Grab.
The On-Demand Van Ride : What it was like
When the van arrived, I was pleasantly surprised. It was clean, air-conditioned and felt safe. The driver was polite and professional. There were a few other passengers, but space was comfortable. Number of passengers per van is 13.
The ride was smooth and the van made a few stops to drop others along the way, but it didn’t feel too slow. Overall, the experience reminded me of a mix between a mini Grab Pool and a public shuttle.
✅Pros :
- Affordable (RM 1.00 per trip) using your Touch n Go card
- More flexible than traditional buses
- Eco-friendly
- Safe and air-conditioned
- Great for short distance trips
❌Cons :
- Service areas are limited (for now). Prasarana Malaysia has indicated that they will expand the service areas soon.
- Might take longer due to shared stops.
- Only available during specific hours.
For people who don’t drive or want to save money on short trips, the Trek app is absolutely worth trying. It’s especially useful for getting around neighbourhoods with limited train or bus access. Compared to Grab, Bolt, it’s way cheaper. Compared to LRT, it’s more direct – no need to walk far or change lines.
Tips for First-time Users
- Check service hours before booking.
- Check service areas to determine your pick-up and drop-off points.
- Be ready a few minutes early at the pickup point.
- Keep your notifications on so you don’t miss your ride.
- Try it during off-peak hours for faster pickup.
💭Final Thoughts
My first experience using the Trek app in Kuala Lumpur to book a Rapid On-Demand Van was a positive one. I have so far, booked a total of 4 rides. It’s a smart, affordable solution for those of us who don’t drive or chose not to drive or simply prefer to avoid traffic and parking stress in KL.
If you’re looking for a budget-friendly and reliable public transport option in KL, give Trek a try – you might just love it as much as I did.
