Are EV Charging Stations Old Hat After Toyota Unveil Their Battery of the Future?

Well, it is not really a battery but it could make EV batteries obsolete. It is in fact a hydrogen cartridge, albeit in the shape of a double-A battery, they are portable and would be as easy to use as swapping out a battery in you Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV).
Recent reports show that the adoption of EVs in most of the world has slowed to a snail’s pace, but, they have left fuel cell vehicles in the dust. The technology has simply too many issues despite the fact that hydrogen is the most abundant element in our world.
Toyota though are not ready to give up on an alternative to EVs and are still pushing a number of alternatives that still include fossil fuel, EVs, Hybrids and of course Hydrogen power. Now they have unveiled what they believe could well leave EVs in the dust at the recent Japan Mobility Show.
The aim is to introduce the portable and swappable cartridges into Japan in the very near future so that that they can showcase them as being a viable and safe alternative to EVs and possible to be used in everyday situations. The cartridges may have some legs as well.
Already companies more familiar in the kitchen are looking at adopting the tech to power your gas stove.
Many years ago we wrote a story about swappable bike batteries being the solution to range anxiety, never thought we would see them for hydrogen power.
